So now I feel weird seeing all the really thoughtful things Leeviface posts all the time. I’m thoughtful. For real, guys. I really am. So why am I not sharing big fancy thoughtfulness posts at all times?
I think there are a few reasons. (I say this with two in mind; we’ll see if I come up with more.)
First off, in addition to being a thoughtful guy, I’m a busy guy. Of course,...
2011 Press Release
Well, folks, it’s a new year, and we at MDR would like to thank you, the community, for making this one of our best yet. As always, we plan to make 2011 even better.
We have big plans for MDR over the coming year. First off, we’re rapidly applying our final polishes for the big day in June when we finally come out of beta and push out MDR 1.0.RC1. We’ll then eagerly listen to...

Winter Coding Challenge... #1?
Inherently pointless coding challenges just to stretch the brain :)
In your language of choice, create a quine. A quine is a program that outputs its own source code. No restrictions, except that the file may not be blank (I’ve seen that before ;D) This is mostly a thinking puzzle, so you’ll work it out with time.
If your previous quine used the filesystem API (commands to read/write...

It makes it easier
When I rise each morning I often imagine that I’m famous
I prepare for the long day ahead Put on my glasses, brush my teeth And exit
They take me for a day of pampering And make me try on new outfits They insist
We arrive at the party I’m not sure that I fit in
I’m a little bit concerned, with good reason They seem to be a little Bit tipsy
Don’t stop, make it pop DJ,...

I forgot how it feels after school.
Waking up at 6 makes me crash at 3. Right. That seems familiar.
School.
One more week, please?
Old IEs should at least fail *all* the time
I was facing an issue with the IE6-7 box model, so I made the traditional fix: set the width as including the padding. Nope, that just messed up something else.
Turns out that IE uses a better box model if you use a doctype declaration (I only recently got actually good enough at web dev to actually know to use one), so that solved part of it. But it also turns out that its better box model still...

Gave the site’s Javascript caching system a huge upgrade, making things much easier for me and making caching much stronger.
It also, however, wiped out the analytics script, leaving me with zero users for a good half hour there.
Whoops. Fixed :P

It bugs me
It bugs me when teenagers write poetry. You don’t know what you’re talking about. All this talk of life and love. It sickens me. You’ve gone through less than you think; your pains are nothing. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
It bugs me that we encourage this behavior. Words don’t just make poetry. Just because something sounds profound doesn’t...

And everything has a system so it all ends up where I want it to, with no double posting of material. It it quite an intricate, totally convoluted system. I’m totally ready for whatever strange purpose I may use these for recording my thoughts and such.
So is this organization or disorganization?
Yep.

This hurts.
Not cool, guys.
So I sit down to program something I started last night that involves my program going to a web page and poking around the HTML code, picking up certain bits and pieces it wants. All fine and dandy.
When I got down to working on it today, turns out this portion of the site was down for maintenance. Not cool, but hey.
So I wait an hour or so, and get back to work. Good. Things seem to be...

He independently confirmed my findings and gave me a physicist trading card of John Bardeen.
Also, I stalled the class for a good 7 minutes.

Since I have two OpenIDs I use, I accidentally had created two accounts on StackOverflow, a site which uses OpenID for authentication. You can tie more than one OpenID to an account, but not if one is already in use on another account. I sent team@stackoverflow.com a quick note explaining I wanted my second, accidental account deleted so I could merge my OpenID in, and I had edited the second...
